Michael had the opportunity
to restore an old Zuber wallpaper (www.zuber.fr). Made in
France since 1797, Zuber is the last factory in the world to produce
woodblock printed wallpapers. For production Zuber uses the original
woodblocks (more than 100,000) engraved from the XVII and XIX century
and is classified as an "Historical Monument".
The paper was taken down from another residence and re-hung in a
larger room, leaving two large gaps and lots of seams to be re-touched.
Using gouache, the painstaking color matching process was a challenge
but the end result was well worth the effort saving the client the
expense of a new panoramic which can fetch prices well over $25-30,000.
This same print hangs in the White House where foreign dignitaries
are welcomed. This section shows a view of Boston Harbor.
